Hwange

Hwange National Park is the country's largest and oldest wildlife reserve. Covering over 14,600 square kilometres, it is renowned for its rich biodiversity, including large elephant herds, lions, buffalo, and over 400 bird species. The park's varied landscapes range from semi-desert to woodlands and grasslands, making it ideal for game viewing.

The park is famous for its large elephant population, one of the biggest in the world. Other prominent animals include lions, leopards, and cheetahs, as well as buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and hyenas. Hwange is also home to various antelope species such as sable, kudu, and impala. Additionally, visitors might spot African wild dogs, which are rare and endangered. Birdwatchers can enjoy over 400 bird species, including eagles, vultures, and colourful bee-eaters.

The Siding is conveniently located near a major railway line and features its own Mpofu Siding. It’s an ideal spot to enjoy an early morning coffee while watching for the Ellie Express or Rovo Rail. Stay alert, as you might also have a visit from the local herd of elephants!
